Robots on the road to win over UK Manufacturers

2007-12-10 - Engineers and manufacturers across the country recently got a crash course in the benefits of robotic technology during a nationwide tour by ABB’s UK robotics division. Touring throughout October, ABB’s exhibition trailer visited 10 locations around the UK to demonstrate how robots can help businesses achieve enhanced productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.

Interactive demonstrations, plus experts from ABB and the British Automation and Robotics Association (BARA), emphasised the many benefits that robots can bring. Visitors were invited to learn from examples of both UK and overseas companies where robots are already being used to dramatically increase output, improve consistency, expand product ranges for global competition and boost productivity and profitability, which in one case increased by 80 per cent.

With perceived complexity being a major reason for many companies’ reluctance to invest in robots, a working robot was on show to highlight the simplicity of programming and operating with modern robotic technology.

"By attending the roadshows, delegates have gained a wider understanding of robotics and the diverse range of application areas ABB robots support. By understanding how overseas competitors measure the cost justification for robots, UK manufacturers can begin to see why robots provide a very attractive solution," says Alan Spreckley, Channel Partner Manager for ABB robotics in the UK. "Feedback from attendees has been widely consistent. The reliability and the diverse selection of application areas, along with the 10 reasons, demonstrate the start of a viable solution for UK businesses to compete globally and we’re eager to show them how."
